Florida Governor declares September Preparedness Month

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared September as Florida Preparedness Month. The proclamation aims to urge residents to prepare for the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, which historically sees its highest level of tropical activity during this month.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) is advising citizens to review evacuation zones, develop family disaster plans, and assemble emergency kits containing enough food, water, and medication to last at least seven days. FDEM officials noted that the Atlantic Basin has recorded at least one named storm during September in each of the past 60 years.
