Florida Governor signs death warrant for Daniel Owen Conahan Jr

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a death warrant for 72-year-old Daniel Owen Conahan Jr., an inmate known as the ‘Hog Trail Killer’. Conahan is scheduled to undergo lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke between September 10 and September 17.

Conahan was convicted in 1999 for the 1996 kidnapping and murder of 21-year-old Richard Allen Montgomery in Charlotte County. Evidence presented during the trial indicated that Conahan lured Montgomery into the woods under the pretense of a paid photo shoot before killing him. Investigators linked Conahan to the crime through fiber evidence and testimonies related to previous assaults.

While Conahan has contested the charges, this execution marks the 15th death warrant signed by the Governor this year. This follows previously scheduled executions for inmates William Frances Silvia and Harold Gene Lucas.
