Florida governor's race shifts to 'Likely Republican' by Cook Political Report

The Cook Political Report has downgraded the Florida governor's race from “Solid Republican” to “Likely Republican,” suggesting the contest may be more competitive than previously anticipated. The shift follows the entry of Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican congressman, who is running alongside former Democratic Representative Gwen Graham.

While Republican candidate Byron Donalds holds a significant advantage, including the backing of Donald Trump and a fundraising lead of more than 10 to 1, analysts suggest Jolly may appeal to independent voters and disaffected Republicans. Despite the potential for competitiveness, Cook noted that Jolly would require a substantial financial boost to fund a robust statewide television campaign to challenge Donalds' overwhelming financial lead.
