Florida gubernatorial candidates clash over sports and political futures

Democratic candidate David Jolly, running for Florida governor against Republican Byron Donalds, has faced criticism following comments regarding transgender participation in sports. Jolly suggested that the issue of biological males competing in girls' sports is a constitutional question that should be decided by the courts, rather than a single universal rule. He noted that while sports leagues should have some latitude, particularly regarding elite competitions like Olympic trials, the debate involves fundamental rights and dignity.

Meanwhile, former Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback teased a potential presidential run in a video on X, though he later clarified he was joking. Fishback, who finished third in the Florida GOP primary, stated he plans to hold town halls in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina before making a final decision. His potential eligibility has been questioned due to his age, as he would be 34 at the time of the 2029 inauguration, while the U.S. Constitution requires a president to be at least 35.
