Florida healthcare faces Medicaid lawsuit and potential hospital funding cuts

Florida is facing significant legal and fiscal challenges regarding its healthcare funding. An administrative law judge has allowed a lawsuit filed by Pediatric Associates against the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to proceed. The lawsuit challenges a new funding formula for Medicaid, which the provider argues is detrimental to those serving Medicaid-enrolled children.

Separately, an analysis by the Florida Policy Institute (FPI) warns that if voters approve Amendment 3, Florida’s public hospital districts and health systems could lose an estimated $323 million over three years. This potential loss could impact funding for indigent care, trauma services, and community health programs. Major South Florida systems, including Broward Health, the Health Care District of Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade’s Jackson Health System, are expected to face the largest fiscal impacts.
