Florida hit by Hurricane Isaias as flamingos seek shelter in zoo restroom
Hurricane Isaias, the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season, struck the Florida coast as a Category 2 storm. Making landfall near Destin with winds reaching approximately 170 km/h, the storm caused significant destruction, including flooding and power outages affecting hundreds of thousands of households. At least four deaths have been reported.
Amid the severe weather, a flock of flamingos at ZooWorld in Panama City Beach found temporary shelter inside a restroom facility. Zoo staff moved the birds indoors to protect them from dangerous winds and extreme conditions. The unusual sight of the birds sheltering in the bathroom was captured on video and shared by local authorities and news outlets.
