Florida homeowners prioritize property insurance over taxes, UNF poll finds
A new poll from the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab reveals that nearly two-thirds of Florida homeowners are more concerned about property insurance than property taxes. The survey of 1,511 homeowners shows that 63% identified insurance as their primary concern, while 36% prioritized property taxes. This sentiment was consistent across different political parties and regions of the state.
The findings come amid significant political debate regarding property tax reform, specifically Constitutional Amendment 3, which will appear on the November 3 ballot. If passed, the amendment would increase the homestead property tax exemption. While Governor Ron DeSantis has advocated for property tax relief as a solution to the state's affordability crisis, the poll suggests that residents view the insurance market as a more pressing issue, despite claims from the administration that the market is improving.
Additionally, the poll highlights instability in the insurance sector, with 54% of respondents reporting they have changed their primary insurer at least once in the last five years.
