Florida implements new communism history curriculum for students
Florida is implementing a new public school curriculum titled ‘History of Communism Standards,’ which was approved by the state Board of Education in November 2025. Florida Commissioner of Education Anastasios Kamoutsas stated that the curriculum is intended to help students understand the ‘catastrophic failures and human suffering caused by communist regimes’ amid a resurgence of such ideologies.
Discussions regarding the rise of socialist and communist ideologies among younger Americans highlight a perceived gap in historical understanding. Observers suggest that the decline of intergenerational storytelling and the end of the military draft have contributed to a loss of shared national identity and historical perspective regarding the Cold War and the dangers of communist expansion.
