Florida law enforcement officers injured in separate pursuit incidents
Two separate incidents involving suspects fleeing law enforcement occurred in Florida recently.
In Hillsborough and Polk Counties, a high-speed pursuit of 32-year-old Antwan Stephen Brinson ended when his vehicle collided with a Florida Highway Patrol sergeant's car on Interstate 4. Following the crash, Brinson fled on foot and attempted to carjack a passing vehicle, prompting troopers to use a taser to apprehend him. Brinson was hospitalized before being booked into the Polk County Jail on multiple felony charges. The sergeant sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
In Eustis, 28-year-old Shakoi Donovan was arrested following a traffic stop where he allegedly sped away with a female officer trapped inside his vehicle. A second officer was reportedly dragged approximately 15 feet by the car during the attempt to remove Donovan from the vehicle. The female officer managed to eject herself from the car after traveling a distance roughly equal to a football field. Donovan faces charges including attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest with violence.
