Florida law enforcement respond to two separate barricaded suspect standoffs

Two separate violent incidents involving barricaded suspects and law enforcement standoffs occurred in Florida.

In Bay County, authorities responded to the Perla Apartments after Marcus Butler allegedly threw household items, including a television, from a balcony onto vehicles and patrol units. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Butler harassed residents and exposed himself to deputies. After refusing to surrender and threatening to kill officers, Butler was confronted by a SWAT team following a forced entry into his apartment.

In Punta Gorda, Renel Joseph was taken into custody following an overnight standoff. Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell stated the incident began as a domestic dispute in which Joseph allegedly battered a family member. Joseph reportedly set fire to a vehicle and his own residence before firing multiple shots at armored vehicles and two deputies. Authorities identified Joseph as a convicted felon residing in the United States illegally and are coordinating with Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement.
