Florida man arrested after fleeing police through swamp with two children

Isaac Kinsey, 27, was arrested in Lakeland, Florida, following a police pursuit through a swampy area known for alligator activity. The incident began in the early hours of Wednesday when Kinsey allegedly drove his vehicle through a road-closure sign and into a construction zone while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license.

After crashing, Kinsey abandoned the vehicle, which contained two empty child safety seats. Drone and body camera footage captured Kinsey attempting to flee through dense, marshy terrain while carrying a 2-year-old boy and a 10-month-old infant. During the struggle through the dark, Kinsey repeatedly stumbled, causing both children to fall into the standing swamp water.

Officers successfully navigated the marsh to reach the group, rescuing the children and taking Kinsey into custody. The children were transported to Lakeland Regional Health for medical evaluation. Kinsey faces 11 charges, including three felonies and eight misdemeanors, most notably two counts of negligent child abuse causing serious bodily harm.
