Florida man arrested for attempted murder of sister with machete

A 36‑year‑old man, identified as Ruben Altidor, was taken into custody in Margate, Florida, after police said he attacked his sister with a machete while she slept beside her one‑year‑old daughter. The victim suffered severe injuries, including a deep thigh wound that reached bone, multiple amputated fingers and a large laceration on her hand, but survived. The infant, who was sleeping in the same bed, was unharmed. Altidor faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated child abuse, and alleged probation violation, and is being held without bail at the Broward County main jail.

Police responded to an emergency call, heard the victim’s screams, and found the scene covered in blood. A machete and its sheath were recovered in the home. The investigation linked Altidor to the assault, and he was arrested at the location.
