Florida Man George Beemer Charged with Murder and Arson in Mother's Death
A 23‑year‑old man, George Beemer, was arrested in Fort Myers, Florida after police said he shot his mother and then set her body on fire, claiming she "wanted to be cremated." Beemer called 911 reporting chest pain, and while he was being taken to a hospital, a second call reported a fire at the same residence. Firefighters found a severely burned woman in the kitchen and investigators say Beemer later confessed to shooting his mother once, dousing the body with gasoline and igniting it.
Lee County authorities have charged Beemer with second‑degree murder, first‑degree arson and abuse of a dead body. The victim’s identity has not been released. Sheriff Carmine Marceno described the case as "one of the most horrific acts of violence imaginable" and praised the coordinated response of deputies, fire, EMS and detectives. The investigation continues as Beemer remains detained at the Lee County Jail.
