Florida man killed in deputy-involved shooting after luring police to Inverness home
A 24-year-old man, identified as Joey Ray Dawson, was killed following a deputy-involved shooting in Inverness, Florida. According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Sunday after a man called 911 claiming he had a weapon and threatening to kill everyone in a house. Investigators determined that Dawson used a location that did not belong to him to lure deputies to the area.
Deputies reported that Dawson emerged from a wood line wearing a gas mask with his hands hidden in a large backpack. When he pointed a large black object at deputies in a firing stance, they opened fire. It was later discovered that the object was a radio, not a firearm. Dawson was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries.
