Apopka man killed while intervening in roadside dispute

Daryl Alexander Hill, a 56-year-old father, was fatally shot in Apopka, Florida, while attempting to intervene in a roadside dispute. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, shortly after Hill had dropped his 10-year-old daughter off for her first day of school at Wolf Lake Elementary.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the altercation began when witnesses observed a man and a woman fighting inside a white Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicle subsequently collided with a black Lexus, and the dispute spilled onto the sidewalk. Hill, who was riding a bicycle, reportedly stepped in to help the woman, leading to a physical confrontation between Hill and the suspect, Raul Lionel Vazquez, 26.

Witnesses stated that Hill emerged from the struggle with his hands raised and called for help, but Vazquez allegedly retrieved a shotgun from the vehicle and shot Hill in the back as he attempted to leave the scene. Hill was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Vazquez has been charged with second-degree murder. Authorities noted that the suspect was out on bond for a previous aggravated assault case involving a deadly weapon at the time of the shooting. While Vazquez claimed he was the one attacked, multiple witnesses maintained that Hill was unarmed and posed no threat.
