Florida man survives shark attack thanks to medical rescuers
Dave Daniel, a 43-year-old Florida resident, survived a severe shark attack while fishing near a sandbar at Boca Grande Key on August 23. Daniel reported that a shark attacked his foot and lower leg, causing profuse bleeding.
Two boaters with medical training, including registered nurse Courtney McMurray, spotted Daniel and provided critical assistance to control his bleeding until rescue teams arrived. The U.S. Coast Guard subsequently airlifted Daniel to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami-Dade.
Following two surgeries to treat the wounds on his right foot, Daniel was discharged on August 26. While he faces significant mobility challenges and an extensive recovery process, he expressed gratitude to the rescuers, describing them as ‘angels out of nowhere’ who saved his life.
