Florida Murder: 71-Year-Old Found Dismembered in Suitcases, Steps Son Charged

Jorge Vázquez Escutia, a 71‑year‑old resident of Orlando, Florida, was reported missing in early August 2026. Days later investigators discovered his dismembered remains inside three suitcases near his home. Surveillance footage captured a man in a black shirt moving the suitcases and placing human tissue inside one of them. The investigation linked the suspect to the victim’s cell phone location.

Police arrested José Proano, the victim’s 44‑year‑old stepson, and charged him with first‑degree murder. Authorities cited blood evidence found on a fence and the suspect’s proximity to the scene as key factors in the case.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continues to process the evidence while Proano remains in custody awaiting trial.
