Florida Panthers prepare for training camp and preseason
The Florida Panthers are preparing to begin their training camp following a period of significant physical wear from consecutive deep playoff runs. The team is scheduled to report for physicals this Wednesday, followed by their first practice on Thursday.
Under new NHL rules, the Panthers will undergo a shortened training camp lasting less than two weeks, featuring four preseason games. The first exhibition match is set for Sunday night against the Carolina Hurricanes at Amerant Bank Arena. Coach Paul Maurice indicated that most regular players will participate in the two home preseason games scheduled for this Sunday and September 25 against Tampa Bay.
A primary focus for the upcoming camp is the defensive unit. After missing over 500 combined games due to injury last season, the team aims to improve its defensive metrics, having ranked 28th in both total goals allowed and goals allowed per game last year. Key players including Gustav Forsling, Seth Jones, and Aaron Ekblad will be central to the team's efforts to stabilize the defense and improve power play conversion rates.
