Florida man films crab brandishing metal blade at him and his dog

A viral video captured by Florida resident Eduardo Alvarez shows a blue land crab appearing to brandish a metal blade in its claw while confronting him and his dog, Summer. The footage, which has amassed over 20 million views on social media, depicts the crustacean waving the object toward the pair in a backyard setting.

Alvarez eventually managed to safely relocate the crab to a different area of his yard. While the encounter has sparked online debate regarding whether the video was generated by artificial intelligence, experts note that crabs are often attracted to shiny objects. The animal has been identified as a blue land crab (Cardisoma guanhumi), a large semi-terrestrial species native to southern Florida.
