Florida executes 77-year-old Curtis Beasley for 1995 murder

Curtis Wilkie Beasley, a 77-year-old Army veteran, was executed via lethal injection on Tuesday at Florida State Prison. He was pronounced dead at 6:12 p.m. following a three-drug injection. Beasley was convicted in 1998 for the 1995 first-degree murder, robbery, and grand theft auto of Carolyn Monfort in Dundee, Florida. Investigators determined Monfort had been bludgeoned to death with a hammer in her laundry room.

Beasley’s execution marks the 16th in Florida during 2026 and the 29th in the United States this year. He was the seventh prisoner over the age of 70 to be executed in Florida this year. Prior to the execution, the Florida Supreme Court rejected appeals arguing that executing an elderly inmate suffering from cognitive decline constituted cruel and unusual punishment. The U.S. Supreme Court also declined to intervene. During the proceedings, Beasley offered a final statement, saying, “I want to apologize for all the mistakes I made.”
