Florida Senate candidates exchange accusations over Medicaid and law enforcement
Florida Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon and Republican opponent Senator Ashley Moody have exchanged sharp accusations during their campaign. Nixon stated in a CNN interview that Moody should be “locked up and punished in jail,” alleging that Moody rerouted $10 million intended for the Medicaid program into political funds to support Governor Ron DeSantis. Nixon also accused Moody of voting to end healthcare for over 440,000 residents in Florida.
In response, Senator Moody criticized Nixon’s political platform and personal business. Speaking to Fox News, Moody alleged that Nixon runs a bookstore in Jacksonville that contains a “shrine to people who have killed law enforcement.” Moody, the wife of a law enforcement officer, specifically cited the presence of figures such as Assata Shakur in Nixon’s shop. Nixon has previously defended the inclusion of such figures, describing some as “freedom fighters” and suggesting many were “set up.”
