Barack Obama endorses Angie Nixon for Florida U.S. Senate

Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Florida State Representative Angie Nixon in her campaign for the U.S. Senate. In a video message, Obama praised Nixon’s background as a community organizer and her advocacy for a $15 minimum wage, access to books, and opposition to Republican-led redistricting.

Nixon, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, is running against Republican incumbent Ashley Moody. If elected, Nixon would become Florida’s first Black U.S. Senator. Her platform, described as a “working families guarantee,” includes proposals for Medicare for All, universal childcare, paid family leave, and a wealth tax on billionaires to fund these initiatives.

The race features significant political contrasts, as Moody has received endorsements from Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. While recent polling shows Moody leading by four points, the margin has narrowed from an eight-point gap in July. Nixon’s campaign has also seen support from progressive figures such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velazquez.
