Florida sets gag grouper and amberjack fishing seasons

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has established the upcoming recreational seasons for gag grouper and greater amberjack in the Gulf of Mexico.

The gag grouper season in state waters is scheduled to run from September 1 through September 30, with the exception of waters off Monroe County. This schedule aligns with NOAA’s recently announced season in adjacent federal waters to help prevent exceeding recreational quotas.

The recreational greater amberjack season will run from September 1 through October 13 in both state and federal Gulf waters, including Monroe County. Anglers fishing for these species from private vessels are required to hold a State Reef Fish Angler Designation and must complete an annual renewal.
