Florida State fans launch website to fund Mike Norvell buyout
Florida State University football fans have launched a website and proposed fundraising initiative to help cover the estimated $51 million buyout for head coach Mike Norvell. The movement, organized via the site ‘Save FSU Football’, follows a 27-24 loss to SMU that left the team with a 1-1 record.
The website outlines various criticisms of Norvell’s tenure, including recruiting statistics and performance against rivals. The proposed financial plan suggests that if 250,000 fans contributed $102 each, they could cover approximately $25.5 million, which is half of the reported buyout estimate. While the site is detailed, it is not currently accepting donations or pledges.
Frustration among the fanbase has grown following a period of inconsistent performance. After a 13-0 regular season and ACC title, the program went 2-10 the following year and finished the most recent season 5-7, missing a bowl game. The recent loss to SMU was noted for its statistical anomalies, as SMU won despite trailing in several key categories including rushing yards and turnover margin.
