Florida State searches for new head coach after firing Mike Norvell

Florida State University has fired head coach Mike Norvell following a 3-5 start to the season. The decision comes after a period of decline for the program, which includes a 10-22 record since missing the 2023 College Football Playoff. Norvell is reportedly owed a buyout of approximately $50.3 million, making it the third largest buyout in college football history.

As the university begins its search for a successor, several names have surfaced in coaching discussions. Former LSU and Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly expressed interest in the role during a radio appearance, stating that leading the program would be an “honor and privilege.” Other names being discussed by fans and analysts include former Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher and Colorado coach Deion Sanders.

The coaching vacancy has already impacted the program’s recruiting efforts. Three-star tight end prospect Troy Silberzahn announced his decision to decommit from Florida State, citing the uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff.
