Florida sues Pfizer and CEO Albert Bourla over vaccine claims

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a civil lawsuit against Pfizer Inc. and its CEO, Albert Bourla, in the 19th Judicial Circuit Court in St. Lucie County. The legal action, brought under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, alleges that the pharmaceutical company misled the public regarding the safety and efficacy of its COVID-19 vaccine.

The complaint claims Pfizer concealed known risks, including myocarditis, pericarditis, and complications in pregnant women, while publicly asserting the vaccine was safe. It further alleges that the company suggested the vaccine could halt virus transmission without sufficient evidence and worked to discredit those who questioned its public statements.

Florida is seeking civil penalties exceeding $50,000 for each violation, the recovery of profits obtained through alleged deceit, and an injunction to prevent future violations. Pfizer has denied the allegations, stating that its representations have been “accurate and science-based” and that the company stands by the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.
