Florida teen sentenced to 50 years for 2024 double murder
Julia Egler, 18, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison following a plea deal for the 2024 murders of her mother, Kelly McCollom, 38, and McCollom’s boyfriend, Matthew Szejnrok, 22.
According to court records and affidavits, Egler pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. The incident occurred in July 2024 at a home in Palm Bay, Florida. At the time, Egler was 16 years old. Investigators determined that Egler had staged the scene to resemble a burglary, initially calling 911 to report an unknown intruder.
Evidence revealed that Egler used a .38 caliber revolver to kill McCollom and then targeted Szejnrok. Szejnrok was shot and stabbed repeatedly in a bathroom before dying. During her sentencing, Egler expressed remorse, stating she was “haunted by grief every day.” The plea agreement makes her eligible for parole in 25 years.
