Florida teenager charged for using AI to frame ex-boyfriend

A 15-year-old girl in Florida has been charged after allegedly using artificial intelligence to frame her ex-boyfriend for a school shooting threat.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on Wednesday, Oct 14, when administrators at Riverview High School received an email containing a screenshot of an Instagram post that appeared to threaten a shooting on campus. While the post initially appeared to be made by a male student, detectives determined through interviews that he was not the author.

Investigations led authorities to the teenager, a former student of the school, who reportedly admitted to sending the email containing the AI-altered image. She faces charges including making a written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting, unlawful use of a two-way communications device, and disrupting a school campus.
