Mario Fernandez Saldana on trial for 2022 Florida ambush of Microsoft manager
The trial of Mario Fernandez Saldana has begun in Duval County, Florida, regarding the 2022 fatal ambush of Microsoft design manager Jared Bridegan. Prosecutors allege that Saldana, an Army veteran, helped orchestrate a murder-for-hire scheme to kill Bridegan.
The prosecution claims the killing was a targeted ambush involving a tire placed in the road to distract Bridegan while he was driving in Jacksonville Beach. The motive is allegedly linked to a bitter custody and religious dispute between Bridegan and his ex-wife, Shanna Gardner.
Saldana is charged with first-degree murder and solicitation of murder. His defense maintains that he had no motive or desire to kill Bridegan and that his actions following the crime do not reflect those of a mastermind. Shanna Gardner is also charged in connection with the case and is scheduled to face her own trial in September. The alleged gunman, Henry Tenon, is expected to go to trial next year.
