Florida, Uruguay intensifies storm‑drain cleaning after heavy rains
The Intendencia of Florida in Uruguay, together with the Centro Coordinador de Emergencias Departamentales (CECOED), carried out intensive cleaning of storm‑drain mouths on Horacio Quiroga street near Zorrilla de San Martín in the Burastero neighbourhood. The operation used a specially equipped service‑truck that combines high‑pressure water and vacuum suction to remove accumulated soil, debris, bags, clothing and other objects that had blocked the drainage system after heavy rains on Saturday night.
CECOED coordinator Cono Arrúa explained that the effort was prompted by the recent rainfall and that the municipality asked residents to keep the drains clear. The cleaning is part of the Intendencia’s preventive plan to improve rain‑water runoff, reduce flood risk and strengthen the department’s response to adverse weather events.
