Florida venue cancels rally with Rep. Rashida Tlaib

The Venue Fort Lauderdale has canceled a scheduled campaign rally featuring U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib. The event was intended to support three candidates in Florida’s upcoming Democratic primary, including U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon.

The cancellation followed criticism from Florida State Representative Michael Gottlieb, chairman of the Florida Legislative Jewish Caucus, who described the planned gathering as an “anti-Jew” event. In response, The Venue cited “increased security concerns” and noted its Jewish ownership and commitment to the Jewish community as factors in its decision.

Representative Tlaib, the first Palestinian American member of Congress, has frequently criticized the Israeli government's actions in Gaza and Lebanon. While she has condemned antisemitism, she maintains that criticism of Israeli military and occupation policies is not inherently antisemitic. The Florida Democratic Progressive Caucus characterized the cancellation as being rooted in anti-Muslim sentiment. Organizers indicated the rally would proceed at an alternative location in Fort Lauderdale.
