Florida woman convicted of vehicular homicide in fatal crash

Leigha Mumby, 25, has been found guilty of vehicular homicide following a high-speed crash in Flagler County, Florida. In February 2025, Mumby drove her vehicle at speeds reaching up to 110 mph off Interstate 95 and into several trees.

The crash resulted in the paralysis of her boyfriend, 22-year-old Daniel Waterman. Waterman survived the initial impact but died in October 2025 from pneumonia. Before his death, Waterman informed authorities that Mumby had crashed the vehicle deliberately during an argument regarding her pregnancy and his communications with another woman.

While Mumby’s defense argued there was no evidence she intended to cause harm to herself or her unborn child, prosecutors highlighted her volatile demeanor leading up to the incident. Mumby, who was injured in the crash, has since recovered and given birth to the child she was carrying at the time of the accident.
