Florida woman shares recovery update after alligator attack

Dina Spann, a 58-year-old retired woman, has shared an update regarding her recovery following a severe alligator attack on the Silver River in Marion County, Florida. On August 8, during a family boating trip, Spann was attacked by a 9-foot, 8-inch alligator.

The incident resulted in the amputation of her right arm below the elbow and the loss of part of her left ring finger. Spann’s son, Zach Guerrina, reported that during the struggle, his mother attempted to hold the animal's mouth shut to prevent it from biting her legs. Bystanders assisted by using an anchor rope and clothing to create an improvised tourniquet to control the bleeding.

Spann shared hospital footage on social media, expressing an optimistic outlook despite the severity of her injuries. Following the attack, trappers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission removed the alligator from the area before the river was reopened to the public.
