Florida's 27th District becomes key battleground over immigration
Florida's 27th Congressional District in Miami-Dade has emerged as a key political battleground for the upcoming November elections. The contest features incumbent Republican María Elvira Salazar, seeking her third term, against Democrat Eliott Rodríguez, who is running for public office for the first time.
Immigration policy remains the central issue in the race. While the district has recently served as a Republican stronghold, the predominantly Latino electorate expresses frustration regarding Donald Trump's immigration offensive. This tension places voters in a dilemma between maintaining Republican support or shifting to the Democratic Party.
According to Census data, three out of four residents in the district identify as Hispanic or Latino. The community includes a significant Cuban population, with more than half of the district's Latinos being Cuban, many of whom arrived in the United States before 2010. The district's cultural significance is highlighted by areas such as Little Havana.
