Floridia, Italy: Teen killed and three injured in nighttime road collision

Around 2 a.m. on a summer night, two motorcycles traveling in opposite directions collided head‑on on the Floridia‑Solarino road in the contrada Finaiti. The crash threw four youths onto the asphalt.

Sixteen‑year‑old Martin Pluchino of Floridia died at the scene despite immediate resuscitation attempts. A 19‑year‑old from Solarino remains in intensive care at Umberto I Hospital in Siracusa, while a 19‑year‑old from Floridia and an 18‑year‑old from Solarino suffered fractures and were hospitalized for treatment. Police and Carabinieri are investigating the causes of the collision.

The local community, including the mayor Marco Carianni and the ARS vocational school, expressed deep grief, emphasizing the loss of a promising student who had been pursuing a motor‑vehicle repair course.
