Floridsdorf elementary school begins 26.7 million euro modernization

A major modernization and expansion project has commenced for the elementary school located at Marco-Polo-Platz 9 in the Floridsdorf district of Vienna. With an investment volume of approximately 26.7 million euros, the project aims to transform the site into a 13-class compulsory school offering all-day care.

The City of Vienna is supporting the district by funding up to 80 percent of the costs. The development is structured in several phases, beginning with the completion of a temporary replacement facility to allow work on the existing building to proceed. The renovation includes redesigning the ground floor and basement, adding new annexes, and creating multifunctional rooms, a library, a dining hall with a warming kitchen, and a modernized gymnasium.

In addition to educational facilities, the project includes the establishment of a new youth center, which is expected to be ready by autumn 2027. The site will also feature two new hardcourt sports fields designed for school use during the day and for local youth in the afternoons. Planners have also integrated heat protection measures into the design to ensure a suitable learning environment during hot weather.
