Florio family history production to tour the United States
The theatrical and musical production ‘I Florio di Calabria, Leoni di Sicilia’ was recently presented at the Teatro Francesco Cilea in Reggio Calabria. Created by Fulvio Cama and Sara Cappello, the show reconstructs the history of the famous Florio dynasty, tracing their roots from 17th-century Calabria to their eventual rise in Sicily.
The production highlights the family's origins in Bagnara, where they developed commercial expertise in wine and fish preservation before achieving prominence in Palermo. The narrative explores the family's economic and social ascent as well as their eventual decline.
A US tour is scheduled for October 2026, with performances planned in Washington and New York. The tour will include academic engagements at Georgetown University and the Harris School, as well as participation in the Columbus Day parade.
