Floyd Schofield wins vacant WBA lightweight title

Floyd ‘Kid Austin’ Schofield captured the vacant WBA lightweight world title with a unanimous decision victory over Lucas Bahdi at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago. Schofield, who remains undefeated at 20-0, secured the win with scores of 116-110, 119-108, and 115-111.

Schofield utilized superior speed, lateral movement, and sharp combinations to control much of the 12-round bout. He scored a knockdown in the third round, while Bahdi responded with a knockdown of his own in the 11th. Despite Bahdi’s power, Schofield’s tactical boxing and ability to land cleaner punches earned him the championship.

Following the victory, analyst Tim Bradley suggested that Schofield’s movement might leave him vulnerable to quicker opponents like WBO lightweight champion Abdullah Mason. Bradley noted that while Schofield’s switch to a southpaw stance was a successful tactical shift, he needs to improve his distance control and punching stability to defend the title against elite competition.
