Flu activity rises early in Central California and Western US

Health officials are reporting an early start to the influenza season, with increased activity noted across Western states. In Central California, the California Department of Public Health reports influenza test positivity rates above 6%.

Medical experts, including Dr. A. M. Aminian of the Allergy Institute, note that the early spread may be linked to school attendance and increased social crowding. While an early start does not necessarily predict the duration or severity of the season, doctors are urging residents to receive vaccinations as soon as possible.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends annual influenza vaccination for everyone aged six months and older, ideally before the end of October. Vaccination is highlighted as particularly critical for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease.
