Flu activity rises in Croatia while Slovenia remains stable

Influenza activity is showing varied patterns across different regions. In Croatia, a rise in flu cases has been recorded, partly attributed to students returning from school trips. While the Croatian Institute of Public Health noted these cases as a premature start to the season, the high transmissibility of the virus remains a factor.

In Slovenia, respiratory infection levels currently remain stable. However, health experts monitor trends in Australia, where a late flu season dominated by influenza type A is approaching its peak. While Australian data often serves as an early indicator for upcoming seasons in Europe, the National Institute of Public Health in Slovenia states it is not possible to reliably predict the local season's trajectory.

Regarding prevention, vaccination remains the most effective method to reduce the risk of severe complications. Due to anticipated delays in vaccine supply, priority for vaccination will be given to high-risk groups. These include individuals over 65, young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems or chronic conditions such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes, or obesity.
