Platense sanctioned to play behind closed doors after Fluminense match violence

Argentine club Platense has been sanctioned to play its next two matches behind closed doors following violent incidents during its Copa Libertadores quarter-final match against Fluminense. The decision was issued by the Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sport (Aprevide) in the Province of Buenos Aires.

Following the conclusion of the match at the Ciudad de Vicente López stadium, where Fluminense secured a 3-2 aggregate victory to advance to the semifinals, tensions escalated on the pitch. Conflicts involved technical staff and players, including Fluminense's Guga. Simultaneously, Platense supporters invaded the field, stole a banner from the visiting fans, and engaged in physical altercations.

The sanction mandates that Platense play its upcoming matches against Newell’s Old Boys and Argentinos Juniors without spectators. While the club is appealing the measure, CONMEBOL is still reviewing the events to determine if further disciplinary actions will be taken against the Argentine side.
