Fluminense and Palmeiras battle at Maracanã amid sanction concerns

Fluminense and Palmeiras played to a competitive match at a crowded Maracanã stadium. Palmeiras took a 2-0 lead with goals from Flaco Lopez and Marlon Freitas, but Wesley Natan scored for Fluminense to bring the score to 2-1.

Following the match, concerns have been raised regarding potential disciplinary action from Conmebol due to the use of flares and pyrotechnics by Fluminense supporters. Journalists have warned that because of the club's history of repeated infractions, Conmebol could impose severe sanctions, such as playing matches behind closed doors, which could impact the team's participation in the 2027 Libertadores group stage.
