Corinthians faces relegation risk and financial crisis

Corinthians is facing a severe crisis in the Campeonato Brasileiro following a 3-1 defeat to Fluminense, marking their sixth consecutive loss in the competition. The club currently sits in 14th place with 32 points, just three points above the relegation zone. Mathematical models from UFMG estimate a 21.4% risk of relegation, noting that the team needs approximately 17 points from the remaining 30 to reach a safe threshold of 49 points.

Despite the poor results and recent exits from the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores, the club's leadership, including President Osmar Stabile and executive Marcelo Paz, has decided to maintain coach Fernando Diniz. This decision was bolstered by requests from squad leaders such as Gustavo Henrique, Rodrigo Garro, and Memphis Depay, who expressed support for Diniz's ongoing work.

Compounding the sporting crisis is a deepening financial struggle. The club has reportedly fallen two months behind on image rights payments for the men's squad, with monthly obligations estimated at R$ 10 million. Additionally, Corinthians is currently under multiple transfer bans and reported a significant deficit of R$ 246 million in the first half of the year.
