Fluminense defeats Platense 2-0 in Copa Libertadores quarter-final first leg

Fluminense secured a 2-0 victory against Platense in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals at the Maracanã stadium. The match, which marked Fluminense's 100th appearance in the tournament, saw goals from Nonato in the 20th minute and Hulk in the 30th minute. Both goals were facilitated by key plays from midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso.

With this two-goal advantage, the Brazilian side can afford a one-goal loss in the second leg to advance to the semi-finals. The return match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, at the Estadio Ciudad de Vicente Lopez in Argentina. Platense, making its debut in the competition, must win by at least three goals to qualify directly, or they will face a penalty shootout if the aggregate score remains tied.

Despite a drop in intensity during the second half, Fluminense maintained a solid defensive position. Veteran defender Thiago Silva played through physical discomfort to lead the backline, while goalkeeper Fábio remained steady against Platense's attempts to equalize.
