Fluminense faces financial strain after losing Superbet sponsorship
Fluminense is facing financial difficulties following the loss of its primary sponsorship from Superbet. The club's management has described the current financial situation as “not comfortable,” expressing concerns regarding the ability to meet payroll obligations for its squad due to the high cost of the wage bill.
The loss of sponsorship is linked to a new provisional measure in Brazil that restricts advertising, marketing, and sponsorship contracts related to fixed-odds betting. This regulation requires betting sector brands to be removed from circulation within ten days of the measure's publication.
To mitigate the impact, Fluminense has joined other teams in a legal action before the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to challenge the restrictions and regain access to the resources tied to the former sponsorship. The club is also negotiating with players regarding vacations, bonuses, and image rights to maintain payments, while attempting to avoid the sale of players unless absolutely necessary to balance the budget.
