Fluminense seeks return of veteran defender Thiago Silva
Fluminense Football Club has opened talks with 41‑year‑old centre‑back Thiago Silva, who became a free agent after terminating his contract with FC Porto before its 2026 expiry. The Brazilian club is evaluating a possible comeback for the former São Paulo and Chelsea player ahead of the July transfer window, seeing his experience and leadership as a boost to the squad.
Silva has not yet decided on his next move. He told Fluminense that he is still weighing all options and will use the coming weeks to consider where to continue his playing career. While retirement has not been ruled out, he has recently completed his UEFA A coaching licence in Scotland, hinting at a future in management. Family considerations – his wife and children reside in London – remain a key factor in any decision. Other clubs, including European teams, have also shown interest, but Fluminense maintains that a return would be mutually beneficial.
