Flutter reviews 100 Paddy Power shops amid job risks

Flutter Entertainment is reviewing the future of up to 100 Paddy Power betting outlets across the UK and Ireland, a move that puts approximately 400 jobs at risk. The review affects about one-fifth of the brand’s retail footprint.

The company cited several financial pressures driving the decision, including rising operating costs, wage inflation, increased competition from online gambling, and the impact of higher gambling taxes announced in the UK Budget, specifically the Remote Gaming Duty.

While no final decision has been made regarding the permanent closure or furloughing of specific stores, the company stated that affected employees will likely be offered opportunities to apply for alternative roles within remaining outlets. This restructuring coincides with a leadership change at Flutter, where Dan Taylor has been elevated to CEO following the resignation of Peter Jackson.
