Flutterwave appoints Morounke Olufemi as Global CFO

African payments technology unicorn Flutterwave has appointed Morounke Olufemi as its new Global Chief Financial Officer. Olufemi, who previously served as the company’s CFO for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), succeeds Mitesh Popat. Popat is stepping down after two years in the role and will serve as a strategic adviser while transitioning to a new entrepreneurial role.

Olufemi brings approximately 24 years of international financial services experience to the position, having previously held senior roles at Access Holdings, AXA XL, and Old Mutual.

This leadership transition follows significant growth for the Nigerian-founded company. Flutterwave recently secured $170 million in Series C funding from investors including Tiger Global and Avenir Growth Capital, helping the firm achieve a billion-dollar valuation. The payment system currently manages approximately $9 billion in transfers across 140 million transactions.
