Flávio Bolsonaro campaign cites Javier Milei as economic model

Daniella Marques, the economic coordinator for Flávio Bolsonaro’s presidential campaign, has identified Argentine President Javier Milei’s economic model as an inspiration for Brazil. Speaking at an Esfera event in São Paulo, Marques stated that the campaign aims to emulate Milei’s approach to reducing bureaucracy, cutting taxes, and restoring market confidence.

The proposed economic agenda focuses on rapid fiscal adjustment to balance public accounts, which the campaign argues is a prerequisite for lowering interest rates. Specific measures discussed include revoking over one thousand norms and taxes implemented under the current administration, returning the IOF (Tax on Financial Operations) to 2022 levels, and eliminating export taxes on petroleum.

Marques also addressed foreign policy, criticizing the current Brazilian government for being “isolated” and suggesting that a Flávio Bolsonaro administration would seek to strengthen ties with China, the United States, and Europe. Regarding domestic transparency, she advocated for the removal of secrecy from judicial inquiries and the opening of INSS records.
