Flávio Bolsonaro campaign image draws fascist comparisons

An image resembling fascist propaganda used by Benito Mussolini was recently published in the official WhatsApp channel of Brazil's Liberal Party (PL). The visual, which featured a black-and-white portrait of Flávio Bolsonaro alongside the text ‘The Flávio Troop,’ was shared with a group of 22,000 members.

The imagery closely mirrors the aesthetic of a 1934 banner used by the Fascist Federation in Rome. Although the image was deleted on Saturday morning, it was authenticated by the Brazilian media outlet UOL and has since circulated on social media.

The Liberal Party issued a statement apologizing for the error, describing the resemblance as a ‘coincidence’ and denying any intentional reference to fascism.
